What are cookies? Back
A "cookie" is a message given to a web browser by a web server. Your web browser then stores the message in a text file on your computer. Each time the browser requests a page from the server, this message is sent back. A cookie's main objective is to identify users and personalise their visit by customising web pages for them, for example by welcoming them by name next time they visit the same site.
Two types of cookies are used on this website:
- Session cookies are temporary cookies that remain in your device until you leave the site. They delete themselves when you close your browser.
- Persistent cookies stay on your device when you close your browser. They remain in your device for much longer (though how long will depend on the lifetime of the specific cookie)
